Contest Evo: Coral Reef

Description

My entry for :iconkronnick:s contest, to create a coral reef pokemon.

This is something i've tried to do before with a Corsola evo but i'm never happy with the results. This time i'd say I am though with regards to the contest I think I could've done better. Still, I had this drawn and coloured the same day I agreed to enter but it's only today (deadline day) i've actually got it shaded and finished. It's also today that i've looked at the other entries and seen that i've had the same idea as someone else... they've done it better too, more personality and more originality. Still, i'm happy enough and Solyp is actually ancient so I decided why not let it tag along.

Solyp are soft bodied, vulnerable pokemon that band together in the rocky shallows of seas to stay hidden and grow. Solyp gather nutrients from the surrounding waters with their tentacles and can defend themselves with a painful sting or by spraying acid into the water. If a solyp doesn't gather enough solar energy to evolve their bodies harden when they die and form the basis for the next generation of the reef, despite this competition for the sunniest climbs is fierce.

Atollone evolve from Corsola with sufficient sun exposure and are great ocean wanderers. Preferring the shallows where their enormous girth provides shelter for many smaller pokemon they will also roam the open ocean and take with them a portable oasis for many other species, even seeding new populations in foreign lands. Social pokemon Atollone can create massive temporary reefs when they rest and even when swimming a large enough herd can sustain its own ecosystem of reef pokemon. According to legend a long life in maximum sunshine can result in Atollone with huge, branching antlers, expansive coral wings and a billowing coral skirt.

I love every fan made evolution of Corsola, and this one is so cool! (Kind of reminds me of the Halberd from Kirby haha)
