Bretlan Waters

EDIT: Replaced Baskite (who was pretty much a placeholder anyway) with Dirigibask, something a little more original though I'm sure there are skybound filter feeders elsewhere on deviantart too.

Esonix are ancient pokemon that survived the extinction event that killed off other dinosaur pokemon like Rexeed. Esonix are fish-eaters and are exceptional at catching fish from the riverbank using their sharp claws but aren't shy about taking other available opportunities which can include smaller pokemon and carrion. Fossil records show that Esonix (or similar relatives) could grow to massive sizes, rivalling even Tyrannut.

Dirigibask are the largest pokemon in Bretlan and very enigmatic for it. Sky tours are held often during the spring so tourists can marvel at their sheer size and grace, made all the more impressive by their tendency to school. Most at home just above the ocean waves Dirigibask make regular trips between under the surface of the sea and up above the clouds. Their filter feeding is just as effective at sustaining their bulk high in the atmosphere as it is under the waves.

Murpike dwell exclusively in only the murkiest natural waters. They rely on the suspended sediment for cover whilst hunting but will kick up the riverbed with their tail in clearer water. Fast in short bursts and powerful fighters, Murpike are highly prized by the anglers of Bretlan who have to be careful when reeling them in as a Murpikes bite can easily sever fingers. Although easily provoked and keen battlers they display a level of cunning rarely seen in other fish pokemon.
